Barbara Martin, CEO of KMA Design, to Speak at Ƶ University 11/9

Ƶ University’s Farrell Entrepreneurial Leadership Series will present “Entrepreneurship and Environmental Graphic Design,” a free public lecture, on Tuesday, November 9, at 6:30 p.m. Light refreshments will be served beginning at 6 p.m. Barbara Martin, founder and CEO of KMA Design, will serve as the keynote speaker. The event will take place in Cecilian Hall, which is located in the Administration Building on Ƶ University’s hilltop campus in Greensburg, Pa. Barbara Martin is the founder and CEO of Kerestes-Martin Associates, Inc., dba. KMA Design, located in Canonsburg, Pa. KMA Design specializes in environmental graphic design and is considered one of the nation’s leaders in this unique area of expertise.

Some of the notable environmental design projects that Martin and her firm have been responsible for include PNC Park, home of the Pittsburgh Pirates, Consol Energy Park, new home to the Pittsburgh Penguins, Saint Pete Times Forum, home of the Tampa Bay Lightning, University of Pittsburgh’s Petersen Events Center, Universal Studios, Walt Disney World and Johns Hopkins University.

Ƶ University retained Martin’s firm to create the exterior site signage on the University’s campus as well as the interior and exterior signage for the Katherine Mabis McKenna Center. Barbara also created the interior signage and donor recognition walls for the Administration Building and newly constructed Performing Arts Center in downtown Greensburg.

One of Martin’s latest endeavors was working with the National Park Service. They have requested KMA Design to upgrade all signage requirements for all parks and monuments throughout the United States and U.S. possessions over the next five years.

In September 2009, Martin had the opportunity to create signage for the G-20 World Summit held at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh, Pa. Martin created an identity, wayfinding and sustainable signage program in conjunction with the G-20 World Summit.


Martin, whose work is globally recognized, is the author of numerous articles for national publications on the subject of environmental graphic design.

Martin, who serves as a member of the Farrell Advisory Board, is a 2010 Ƶ University Distinguished Alumni, and remains involved in the life of the University. She is also a 2010-11 Who’s Who Presidential Award recipient.

The Farrell Entrepreneurial Leadership Series is a program of the Farrell Programs for Innovation in Business at Ƶ, and is made possible by a gift from the Farrell Family Foundation of Pittsburgh. The Farrell Advisory Board at Ƶ assists with strategic planning, program and curriculum review, and resource development for the University’s Signature Degree Programs in business, at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.

Ƶ University’s E-Magnify® women’s business center program provides business counseling, education/training and mentoring services to help women start and grow their businesses. Since its inception in 1991, E-Magnify® has reached thousands of women through its initiatives and has distinguished itself as a leading resource for women business owners in western Pennsylvania.
