GREENSBURG, PA- The ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ College Sacred Music Program released its schedule for Spring 2002. • Saturday January 26, 2002 Sacred Music Workshop (in cooperation with Music Innovations of Pittsburgh): 9:00 a.m.- 2:45 p.m. on the ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ College campus. Fee $20 (includes large packet of choral music). Pre-registration is strongly encouraged. - 9:00 a.m.- 10:00 a.m. (options) A. Cantering the Psalms with James Hess, director of music ministry at Blessed Sacrament Cathedral B. Voice Lessons for the Choir: Warm-ups and Vocal Techniques for Church Choirs with Lynne Williams, ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ College voice faculty and director of music for Aspinwall Presbyterian Church. - 10:00 a.m.- 10:30 a.m.- Visit the Music Display - 10:30 a.m.- 12:15 p.m. Choral Reading with Marvin and Shirley Huls of the ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ College music faculty. Adult and Children’s Choral Music will be featured. Edgar Highberger, assistant professor of music at ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ College, is the accompanist. - 12:15 p.m.- 1:30 p.m. Lunch on own- the ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ College cafeteria will be open. - 1:45 p.m.- 2:45 p.m.- What’s New, What’s Old in Practical Organ Music Worship. Edgar Highberger, assistant professor of music at ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ College. This session will be held in the First Presbyterian Church organ loft in Greensburg (free parking in church lots). • Monday, March 1, 2002 Annual Scholarship Benefit Concert (provides grants for ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ College sacred music students in cooperation with the ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ College-Westmoreland County Chapter of the American Guild or Organists) at 8:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Greensburg . Donation is $10 at the door; children and students are free. Timothy and Tamara Albrecht perform solos and duets on the 62nd rank Austin organ at the First Presbyterian Church of Greensburg. Dr. Timothy Albrecht is university organist and professor of music at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Albrecht has given recitals throughout the United States, Great Britain and Europe. He has published nine volumes of hymn setting titled Grace Notes. Tamara Albrecht is a native of Greensburg. She teaches music history and is the director of the Children’s Music Development Center at Emory University. She is also organists and music director at St. Bede’s Episcopal Church in Atlanta. • Sunday March 17, 2002 Cathedrals and Spires XII at 4:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Greensburg. Admission is free. ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ College Choirs and Handbell Ensembles will perform. Marvin Huls is the director. • Friday, April 5, 2002 ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ College Faculty Recital at 8:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Greensburg. Admission is free. • Friday, April 12, 2002 Senior Recital- Peter Waggoner, organist: at 8:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Greensburg. Admission is free. • Saturday April 13, 2002 Handbell Festival: at 3:30 p.m. in Cecilian Hall on the ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ College campus. Area handbell choirs join in massed and solo ringing under the direction of Dale Hanks, area handbell specialist and published composer of handbell music.
