Ƶ Arts Center Wins Multiple Awards
Ƶ’s Art Program has helped to define the landscape of this region for decades. The new Ƶ Arts Center, opened in fall 2015, took that tradition a step further by becoming a permanent part of Greensburg’s scenery – and winning a lot of awards in the process.
To date, the Center has been honored with:
- An Award of Excellence from The American Institute of Architects’ Committee on Architecture for Education in 2016.
- A Merit Award from the Society for College and University Planning in 2016.
- An Honor Award from the Boston Society of Architects in 2016 for Education Facilities Design.
- A 2015 Building Excellence Award from the Master Builders’ Association of Western Pennsylvania.
- A Gold Commonwealth Award in the Community Institution category from 10,000 Friends of Pennsylvania in 2015.
Designed to honor the region’s industrial heritage while supporting the students who will create its future, the Center features sculpture, graphic design, metalsmithing, clay, photography, printmaking, drawing and painting studios; welding facilities and a foundry; and three exhibition spaces: Harlan Gallery, the Jodee Harris Gallery and the Art Yard. It also includes three dance studios that support the growing dance programs for the university and the community.
“The Ƶ Arts Center provides a signature, inspiring and distinctive setting to support and energize the university’s programs across the arts. Along with the Performing Arts Center, it creates a vibrant, energetic, and growing arts community, both for the University and for the city of Greensburg.“
- Dr. Curt Scheib, Chair – Division of Visual and Performing Arts
