Soccer Player Emily LoPresti and Women's Soccer Team Honored by YWCA of Westmoreland County

Ƶ junior women's soccer player Emily LoPresti and the Griffin women's soccer team have all earned honors from the Westmoreland County YWCA. LoPresti was named the Sports Woman of the Year for excellence in a team sport. The women's soccer team was named the Women's Sports Team of the Year. They were honored at the 2018 awards banquet on Tuesday, April 10 at the Ramada Inn and Conference Center in Greensburg.

LoPresti had a tremendous fall for the Griffins on the soccer field. For the third straight season, Emily was an All PSAC selection. This past season she was a first-team selection. LoPresti was also named to the D2CCA and United Soccer Coaches All-Region teams. LoPresti led the Griffins in goals, points and game-winning goals. She finished the season with 16 goals, 35 points andnine game-winning goals, and led the PSAC in goals and game-winning goals and was second in points. She finished second in Division II in game-winners, tied for 14th in goals and tied for 24th in points. Emily now has 34 career goals as a Griffin. Off the field, LoPresti helped the team to the PSAC's Top Team GPA Award, which is given to the team in each of the league's sports with the highest GPA. The team also won the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award. Emily is a member of the Exercise Science club on campus and has taken part in many community service activities. She has helped at the food kitchen at a local church and has taken part in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters bowling event. LoPresti and the Griffins also hosted a Red Card Cancer event during their season, which raised money for cancer research.

2017 was the most successful season for a Ƶ women's soccer program since the school joined the NCAA. The team under third-year head coach Andy McNab and assistant Alyssa Finelli reached heights never before seen for the soccer program. The team finished with a 12-6-1 overall record and a 10-5-1 mark in conference play. The 12 wins were the most for the school since joining the NCAA. The Griffins were also a perfect 10-0-0 at home this season, the only team in the PSAC to be perfect at home. The Griffins were also ranked regionally by the United Soccer Coaches every week and were in the USC national rankings for three weeks. Ƶ qualified for the PSAC Tournament as the #7 seed and had to travel to Kutztown for the first round of the tourney. Junior forward Emily LoPresti was named a first-team All PSAC selection. Sophomore forward Katie Kimmich and junior keeper Jessica Neill were named to the third team. LoPresti was also named a D2CCCA and United Soccer Coaches All-Region selection. For the second straight season, Neill was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District team. Off the field, the team won its third straight PSAC Top Team GPA Award. The award is given to the team in each of the PSAC sports with the top overall team GPA. The Griffins were also awarded the United Soccer Coaches Academic Team Award this season.
