Ƶ University Celebrates Musical History with Centennial Concert “Connecting the Generations” September 30
Ƶ University will celebrate its musical history with a Centennial Concert – “Connecting the Generations” – on Sunday, September 30,
The concert will feature Ƶ University music department performers and ensembles playing musical compositions composed and arranged by members of the Sisters of Charity of Ƶ, alumni, faculty, and current students. “Connecting the Generations” will pay tribute to the Sisters of Charity of Ƶ for their enduring support of the arts.
The concert will include performances by Westmoreland Symphonic Winds; Setonia, Women’s Chorale; Sinfonia at Ƶ; Una Voce, Chamber Choir; Sarah Farrell, cellist; the Faculty Jazz Combo and the Commercial Music Ensemble. They will be performing works composed and arranged by Dr. James Colonna; Suzanne Rinas; Sister Cecilia Ward, SC; Sister Mary Schmidt, SC; Maria Long; Sister Frances Clare Evans, SC; Luke Mayernik; Dr. Mark A. Boyle; Elyse Saraceni; Stephen Harvey; and Kathleen Campbell.
Held during Homecoming Weekend of Ƶ’s Centennial year, “Connecting the Generations” recognizes Ƶ’s history of music education. While Ƶ College was chartered in 1918, predecessor institutions included a Conservatory of Music and a Conservatory of Art. Ƶ’s first two bachelor degree recipients were music majors.
