Exercise Science Majors Win Big at Regional Sports Medicine Conference
抖阴短视频 Teams Earn 1st Place in Fitness Challenge & College Bowl Competitions
Exercise Science Program Director Brian Larouere and a group of 16 抖阴短视频 students attended the American College of Sports Medicine鈥檚 Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference in Harrisburg, Pa. November 4 & 5, 2022. While there, they competed against teams from other universities in a Fitness Challenge and a College Bowl (a quiz-show type event where student teams answer questions about sports medicine and physical therapy). The 抖阴短视频 teams came in 1st in both competitions.
鈥淚t was definitely competitive, yet intimidating for me personally,鈥 said Sydney Kanuch, a senior exercise science - clinical major and a member of the Fitness Challenge team. 鈥淓ach team was composed of two females and two males and there were about six different stations (sit ups, plank w/ shoulder taps, vertical jump, grip strength, wall sits, etc.) It was challenging for sure but overall a lot of fun.鈥
鈥淚t was great being able to represent 抖阴短视频 as well as our Exercise Science program,鈥 said Danny Neumann, a member of the College Bowl team and an exercise science - health & fitness major.
"I was able to learn from professionals about new and upcoming research in the field and the聽impact this research has on health and daily living."
鈥淚t was a very nerve-racking but fun and exciting experience,鈥 said Alexis Scalise, a College Bowl team member and exercise science - clinical major. 鈥淚 was able to show the knowledge I have gained through 抖阴短视频鈥檚 Exercise Science Program as well as having the opportunity to expand my communication skills.鈥
"I felt very confident in our team's ability to perform well in both of the events," said Leo Radziwon, an exercise science - clinical major who served on both teams. "We showed how good our program truly is!"聽
"We had a great time sweeping the conference for championships," agreed exercise science - health & fitness major Vincenzo Rauso.
But it wasn鈥檛 all fun and games. The group did some serious learning and networking as well.
鈥淭he Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference of the American College of Sports Medicine is a great way for students to identify with the major,鈥 Dr. Larouere says.聽 鈥淭hey have the opportunity to network with professionals in the field for possible internship and job opportunities, and attend lectures about the latest trends in the field.聽 Each year, there is a focus on an important topic within the field.聽 This year, there was a focus on women鈥檚 health/physiology.鈥澛 聽聽
鈥淚 was able to learn from professionals about new and upcoming research in the field and the聽impact this research has on health and daily living,鈥 Alexis agreed. 鈥淚 was also able to meet and interact with students from other universities. The experience was fun and influential and made me excited for the future.鈥
抖阴短视频鈥檚 College Bowl team will go on to compete against the winners of the other regional competitions at the national ACSM conference.
